So after Weiyi linked me to this page with its lip-synced rendition of “The Internet is for Porn”, I got curious about the musical the song’s from and started looking it up.
It looks mighty interesting. Who could resist a musical with a Sesame Street-styled mix of puppets and humans, including one who sounds exactly like Cookie Monster, and two -cough- roommates so reminiscent of Bert and Ernie?
The songs sound pretty good too. I’m trying not to find out too much about the full story right now, since I fully intend to watch it some day, but aside from “The Internet is for Porn”, here’s one I found really poignant, “I Wish I Could Go Back to College”.

I don’t know if my lecturers this term intended to do it, but this module has some of (to me) the funniest slides ever!
(Edit: Probably not funny per se, but more like… ironically true. I have a rather macabre sense of humour, sometimes)

Why do people like cancelling so much? If you’re not sure you’re coming don’t say you are lah! Does your word mean so little? Doesn’t it bother you at all that other people might be disappointed when they were expecting you to turn up? Do you just expect them to get used to it, that’s your style, when you say you’re coming for something you mean please half-expect a cancellation at the last minute?
And yet, it’s not like I’ve never cancelled on others before. And looking at the work I have to do, I’m actually quite relieved to have extra time to do it tonight.
And yet, I’m still peeved.
Just another hypocrite.

A meat by any other name…

Today we were at Pizza Hut having pizza buffet when somehow we brought up the topic of Seoul Garden. Now, I happen to be one of the few people I know who actually likes Seoul Garden, so I mentioned the two types of meat I usually pile up on there - Sze Chuan Chicken and Beef Bulgogi. The latter just invited a lot of stares. Apparently no one’s ever heard of it.
Which really surprised me because most of my friends here are rather carnivorous, and bulgogi’s like one of Korea’s national dishes or something. I mean, hotplate beef! Gosh. Yum.
Or maybe it’s just the way I pronounced it. I said something like ‘boo-go-gee’, ‘gee’ as in ‘geese’, which might quite possibly be very different from what the Koreans call it. It seems I have a talent for mangling the pronunciations of many a foreign language.

Turning of the Wheel

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose…. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of time.
But it was a beginning.
So everything changes, and what’s new about that? I think I’m finally getting the hang of it all, though, and strangely enough I don’t find myself just wishing everything was back to the way it used to be. I suspect that one of the pitfalls of having been in NY/RI GEP was that for the longest time, I’d been comfortably exposed to mostly the same faces. I do still look at days gone by with a certain sort of wistfulness sometimes, but I no longer try to hang on to it so hard.
If it’s meant to be, it will be. Things are often better than you think they are. Why expend all that time and energy focusing on the past, when the future has so much more to look out for?

Egg twins and Wife-killing

The egg I fried today had two yolks. It might just be that I’m not that big an egg fan (thus have not been exposed much to the various egg types), but I was really amazed to see it. Made me wonder if chickens have mono-zygotic twins, too.
(As an aside, check out iloveegg.com’s egg song if you’ve not already seen it. It’s totally hilarious. And kinda cute.)
This might possibly be the funniest Psychology lecture slide I’ve come across this whole academic year.
So, do you happen to have killed your wife?
